The Air Guard System Manual

THE AIR GUARD SYSTEM Standalone Airflow Failsafe & Alarm | Customer Operation Guide

Welcome to the Pond Kinetics ecosystem. You have just added a critical layer of life support to your pond.

Your biological filter and your fish rely on a constant supply of oxygen. If your air pump fails, a hose detaches, or the power trips, your pond’s ecosystem is instantly at risk. The Air Guard System actively monitors your air line pressure 24/7 and sounds a high-decibel alarm the moment your air supply drops.

Note on the Calibration Valve: Inside the unit is a precision calibration valve designed to safely depressurise the sensor in the event of a pump failure. Because this valve continuously purges a microscopic volume of air to verify system integrity, you may hear a slight hiss coming from the unit. This is perfectly normal and releases only a tiny, negligible amount of air (<1% of total pump volume).

1. IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION & WARNINGS

Please read all safety instructions before installing or operating the Air Guard System. Failure to follow these guidelines could result in damage to the unit, false alarms, or voiding of the warranty.

Water & Moisture Protection

  • Low Voltage Safety: This unit operates on a highly safe, low-voltage 9V DC circuit. There is no risk of mains electrocution from the control box itself.

  • Do Not Submerge: The Air Guard is weather-resistant but is not waterproof. Never submerge the control box in water.

  • Mounting Location: Mount the unit vertically in a dry, sheltered location. Ensure it is positioned safely away from direct water splashes, fountain spray, or areas where it could easily be knocked into the pond.

Pneumatic Safety (Air Lines)

  • The Siphon Risk (Crucial): Always ensure your main pond air pump is fitted with a standard "Non-Return Valve" (check valve) between the pump and the water. If the power fails, water can siphon back up the airline. A non-return valve prevents water from flooding your pump and travelling up the T-piece into your Air Guard sensor.

  • Do Not Block the Bleed Port: The microscopic hiss from the unit is intentional. Never cover, tape over, or block the base of the unit, as this will trap pressure and prevent the alarm from sounding during an emergency.

  • Secure Connections: Ensure the 4mm air line is pushed fully onto the bottom connector and the T-piece. Loose connections can vibrate off over time, causing a false alarm.

System Limitations & Liability

  • Monitoring Only: The Air Guard is an early-warning detection system. It does not provide backup air or generate oxygen. It relies entirely on the user hearing the alarm and taking prompt physical action to restore the air supply.

  • Regular Testing: An alarm is only as good as its battery. You must press the [ TEST ] button monthly to verify battery health and buzzer volume.

2. PLUG & PLAY INSTALLATION

Your Air Guard System is completely wireless and comes with a premium 9V battery pre-installed. Installation takes less than 60 seconds.

  • The Box Connection: Take a length of standard 4mm pond air line (not included) and push one end firmly onto the 4mm connector located at the bottom of the Air Guard control box.

  • The T-Fitting (Included): We have supplied two fittings to suit your setup: a 4mm T-fitting and a 4mm-to-6mm T-fitting. Cut into your existing air pump hose, insert the appropriate T-fitting to splice your main lines back together, and connect the other end of your Air Guard line to the middle branch of the T-fitting.

  • Mount the Box: Mount or hang the Air Guard box in a dry, accessible location where you will easily hear the alarm.

3. THE CONTROLS

Your Air Guard features two simple buttons on the front panel:

  • [ ON / OFF ] Press this button to arm or disarm the system. When armed, the system will actively monitor the pressure inside your air line. (Note: Only turn the system ON after your air pump is running. If you turn it on while the air pump is off, the alarm will immediately sound).

  • [ TEST ] Press and hold this button at any time to manually trigger the LED visual warning and the audible buzzer. We recommend pressing this once a month to ensure the internal 9V battery is still fully charged.

4. THE ALARM STATE (What to do if it goes off)

If the Air Guard detects a sudden drop in air pressure (caused by a broken pump, a split hose, or a power failure to the pump), the internal valve will depressurise the system and immediately trigger:

  • The Visual Alert: The ultra-bright red LED indicator will flash.

  • The Audible Alert: The high-decibel buzzer will sound.

Action Required: If the alarm sounds, immediately check your air pump and all air hoses. Once you have fixed the issue and the air pressure returns to normal, the alarm will automatically silence itself. Alternatively, you can press the [ ON / OFF ] button to manually silence the alarm while you work on the pond.

5. BATTERY MAINTENANCE

The Air Guard operates on a single standard 9V battery. Because the system draws virtually zero power while in "monitoring" mode, the battery will last for many months.

If the alarm sounds weak, or if the LED does not light up brightly when you press the [ TEST ] button, simply unclip the side panel of the enclosure and clip in a fresh 9V battery.
